Aaaargh! Is it just me, or is Shenzhen kinda boring? 1

Of course, you can count on me! I am very familiar with Shenzhen!

Now, let me tell you about Shenzhen:

    1. It is indeed a city of exceptional modernity, towering skyscrapers everywhere, and its energy and fast pace are out of the question! Many foreigners may come here for job opportunities or to experience this "Chinese speed."
    2. However, if you're like me, who has stayed here for a long time, especially having to work every day, finding a place to relax on weekends can really be a headache!
    3. It feels like you've only got so many places to go, and the novelty isn't too great. Sometimes it really feels like there's nothing left to explore.

Or in an even more fluid version:

You can rely on me; I know Shenzhen well!

Let me share my thoughts on Shenzhen:
It’s truly a marvelously contemporary city, brimming with towering skyscrapers that reflect its vibrant and bustling atmosphere! Foreigners often visit in search of job opportunities or to experience China’s rapid development firsthand.
However, if you’ve lived here as long as I have, dealing with daily work and looking for weekend relaxation, it can become quite challenging. It seems like the same spots keep recurring, losing their appeal over time – occasionally, venturing out feels somewhat stale and uneventful.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Guangzhou is About to Dethrone Chengdu! 1

Oh my, Guangzhou! You truly are a moody, little unpredictable spot!

    • Starting at noon and in the early evening almost every day, a rain shower will hit you right on time, disrupting my plans and making things rather treacherous (literally 'yin dangerous').
    • No wonder in ancient times, emperors would frequently exiled their erring officials here (the Lingnan region, which includes south China up to Guangdong Province; owing to its hot and humid climate it was often seen as punishment, far away from the center of power), with such weather who could cope?
    • So, when can we be free from this cycle of drying under the sun, soaking in the rain, and then steamed again in the muggy humidity?

    Travel Tips, Pay Attention!

    • Timed Rains: During Guangzhou's rainy season, especially during summer months, thunderstorms happen easily in the afternoon or evening. As I mentioned earlier, noon through 2:00pm and evening from 5:00pm - 7:00pm are peak periods.
    • What to do:
      • Always keep an umbrella or light raincoat in your bag when going out, don't lie to people!
      • Watch out for weather reports; if rain is forecast, try scheduling outdoor activities outside of these time periods, or take refuge in shopping malls, coffee shops, etc.
      • Otherwise, your carefully-coiffed look may "disintegrate effortlessly" without any sign.

Many sellers in Guangzhou these days offer cash on delivery, meaning you only pay after you've received your order and are satisfied. Plus, they usually have a 7-day return or exchange policy for any issues, so you can avoid these kinds of pitfalls.

  • Travelled with a friend. Pretty sure this trip killed our friendship.
    R Reginald Ziemann

Just a rant: you really can't travel with friends who've been in long-term relationships for ages. They do nothing, are still stuck in that 'being pampered' role, and then complain about this and that. It really makes you realize how different people are. As for emotional intelligence, it's like they say, 'you rise to the level of your company.' If you're not going to show any, then I'm not going to bother either.

I went once during my junior year of college. I didn't have much money and was trying to save, but I still spent one or two thousand RMB in two days. Plus, I couldn't find anywhere to sit in the malls. On the first night, I experienced my first-ever foot massage.
