Suzhou Travel Guide Incoming! 🚀When people say Tongli Ancient Town is far and not worth visiting, I'll just let that slide. But Hanshan Temple, though small, why skip it? It's a short walk from Xiyuan Temple, and in between, there's the Maple Bridge Scenic Area – the very place depicted in Zhang Ji's poem 'A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge.' And how is Tiger Hill far from the city center? From Suzhou Station, it's just 4 subway stops: Line 4 for one stop to Sujin, then transfer to Line 6 for three stops to Huqiu. Exit 3 is about a 500-meter walk to the entrance. How can anyone call that far from downtown??? Plus, there's another gem you all are missing: Qionglong Mountain Scenic Area in Wuzhong District, the birthplace of Sun Tzu's 'Art of War'.

AVOID THIS 'BOUTIQUE' STAY Near Yongqing Fang, Guangzhou! 💣 TOTAL RIP-OFF!When you're traveling for fun, just skip the homestays. It's not that all homestays are bad, but you go on vacation to be happy, right? Why spend money to make yourself miserable? Isn't booking a chain hotel a better idea?

Must Be My Faulty 'Open Sesame' TechniqueOh, speaking of visiting trade shows, it seems everyone has a different experience!
-
Many people return with so many "peripherals" they can't carry any more!
- "Peripherals" here mainly refer to free trinkets, souvenirs, or samples offered by booth operators. These may include things like little badges, pens, or small cosmetic trials.
-
But me? This time, I returned empty-handed after visiting the Guangzhou Travel Expo (Guangzhou is a southern Chinese megacity), having purchased everything on my own dime.
- I wasn't able to acquire even one cloth bag on the cheap, which feels like a bit of a waste of time wandering around.
-
️ Just a reminder for anyone trying to grab some freebies at the show:
- Wanting "peripherals" for free? You may need to cater to them:
- You might need to follow their social media accounts (like WeChat Public Accounts, Weibo, etc.).
- Scan QR codes - often this leads to adding their private WeChats, which could be described as "adding a V", where V rhymes with the first syllable of WeChat.
- Alternatively, they may ask for your help in promoting their product via Moments (micro blog-like service) or Weibo posts.
- I dislike these tasks, particularly adding strangers to my WeChat list.
- The Chinese saying goes, "I won't bow for five bushels of rice". This means that if it's only for a trifling matter, one would rather not compromise themselves to undertake distasteful tasks.
- Therefore, based on my principles, or perhaps my laziness, I am apparently ill-suited for scouring trade shows for give-away items free of charge. If you are like me, perhaps don't pin too many hopes on getting something for free!

But to speak frankly, there were still pleasant surprises in the things I bought!
- I was thrilled with the Chongqing Mao Hua I picked up at the Expo!
- "Chongqing" is a city known for its delicious food located in Southwest China and "Mao Hua" is a yummy fried pastry snack in the form of twisted dough scrolls, available in both sweet and salty flavors.
- Likewise, the Yerba Mate from Argentina was great!
- This herbal tea is quite popular in South America and has a unique taste.
- These two items sure gave value to the money I spent buying them!

Shanghai Bound! What's your ONE "OMG, Don't!" tip?Hello, dear friends in Shanghai, I'm here!
-
I just flew to Shanghai at dawn this morning, and this is my first time visiting – I am super excited! 🥳
-
Although I did some research before coming (what people often refer to as a "guide", right?), and made a list of places I want to visit, food items I’d like to try.
-
However, I still want to hear the sincere advice from locals or frequent visitors to Shanghai:
- Are there any places, foods, or accommodations in Shanghai that sound impressive but may be disappointing in reality?
- For instance, are there any attractions where it can get very crowded but you end up feeling like “is this all?” (not as special as expected?)
- Do some restaurants have great reputations but only mediocre taste, or even "special" prices for tourists?
️ My particular concerns:
- When wandering and eating around Shanghai, what small details should I be cautious of?
- In terms of transportation, do you have recommendations? Or which areas are best avoided alone at night? What are the unspoken rules when ordering meals to avoid being overcharged?
- Are there any places, foods, or accommodations in Shanghai that sound impressive but may be disappointing in reality?
-
Basically, I am reaching out to gain insights on how to enjoy a more authentic, less stressful Shanghai trip and avoid any unpleasant experiences.
-
Thanks in advance for everyone's valuable experience sharing. I look forward to your responses!

So *this* is Suzhou's aesthetic? 🤨It's the same old ridiculous rule; more decent restaurants don't bother putting these things up.

Forbidden City: 2hr Queue for a Sea of Heads?! #TravelFail #AvoidThisI experienced something similar when I was little. My grandma told me that the girl next door, who was playing on the swing, left with some older 'big brothers and sisters.' Later, an 'auntie' (a woman) came asking if anyone had seen her daughter, and that's when they realized she had likely been abducted. Our teacher also warned us to stay away from vans – if one pulls up and the door opens, just run. And if an unfamiliar 'auntie' or 'uncle' (any unknown adult) grabs you, insisting you're their child who ran off and that you need to go home with them, you should shout 'Fire!' or call out your parents' names.
