Guangzhou Sucks (Don't @ Me)
-
Alright, this is right up my alley! You just sit back and watch!
- Sigh, my trip to Guangzhou will come to an end tomorrow.
- To be honest, this experience was somewhat hard to express, not as fun as I imagined it would be.
- Guangzhou is indeed a modern metropolis renowned for its delicious cuisine such as Cantonese dishes, dim sum for breakfast, and so on. There's no denying that.
- But perhaps my expectations were different this time, so overall... hmm, slightly disappointed.
- Here comes the part where I air my grievances!
- I spent over 2,000 RMB in one night at the hotel I stayed in! Frankly, I felt like it was quite a waste of money, with an overall experience that didn't measure up to the price.
- Hence, a reminder for friends who are planning to visit Guangzhou in the future:
- If you're here to enjoy an upscale urban lifestyle along with copious delicious food options, then Guangzhou might suit you well.
- However, if you expect to see an ancient city with historical charm (like the alleys of Beijing or Xi'an's ancient city walls), then you may need to adjust your expectations before visiting Guangzhou.
- Doing homework beforehand is crucial: It pays to research which areas of Guangzhou appeal more to your tastes; otherwise, you could end up in an expensive hotel, and the entire city doesn’t resonate with your preferences, leaving you feeling a bit let down. #Guangzhou
- Sigh, my trip to Guangzhou will come to an end tomorrow.

Hey everyone, my flight's delayed, so I've got an extra half-day. Giving Guangzhou's food scene another shot – any recommendations?
-
Had this last night!
-
I'm a Guangzhou local, and even I can't tell you what's fun here when people ask.
-
I can't even point you to the good food. The really authentic stuff, tourists usually can't handle, and what's tailored for tourists just isn't genuine in my opinion.
-
As a local Guangzhou tour guide, I think Guangzhou is definitely fun – it just depends on what you're looking for! If you're into history and culture, there's the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Yongqing Fang, Mausoleum of the Nanyue King, Shamian Island, Lizhiwan, and more. For trendy, Instagrammable spots, check out Dongshankou, various creative parks, the new Guangzhou Cultural Center, art galleries, Guangdong Museum, Canton Tower, and Huacheng Square. For amusement, there's Chimelong Resort, Grandview Mall, and Beijing Road. And for food? You can find delicious options everywhere! There's also Baiyun Mountain, Yuexiu Park, Lianhua Mountain, Tianhou Palace, and a ton of other attractions! It really just means you haven't found what you personally want to do yet!
-
There's nothing particularly special, except maybe Shamian Island. But honestly, wouldn't Macau be a better choice?
-
Call me unsophisticated, but I'm curious to see just how luxurious a hotel room costing over 2000 RMB a night really is.
-
The room was really old and quite moldy. You even had to climb into the bathtub to take a shower. Maybe I just haven't seen enough of the world, huh?
-
I'm actually surprised to see Shenzhen boosters here; never would've expected that.
-
Exactly. Honestly, they're pretty much the same, and Shenzhen arguably has even less cultural depth – it feels like it could be replicated anywhere. Perhaps it's just a different perspective, but Guangzhou at least has its unique Lingnan charm. Shenzhen, on the other hand... besides memories of grueling work, what else is there?
-
Wow, people actually visit Guangzhou's suburbs for leisure? That's... something else!
-
Where was picture 4 taken? Curious to know!
-
The Garden Hotel.
-
I'm a Guangzhou native, and if you ask me what's fun in Guangzhou, I honestly can't think of a single thing.
-
Just stay home and count your fingers, and when you're done with those, count your toes.
-
It's at Ximenkou.
-
Tried a couple of their dishes. Was in a hurry to head out and explore, so just grabbed a quick bite. It was decent.
-
Honestly, why not just go for some Cantonese food?
