Beijing: So, Street Sleeping... Can I Actually Do That? 1

Wow! The hotel prices in Beijing are just outrageous, making my head spin! 😭

I've been searching for a hotel in the past few days and my eyes are almost blurry. I'm getting close to having 'choice overload' syndrome!

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations? I am mainly looking for:

    • Convenient transportation
      • For example, being close to a metro station makes it much easier to travel around to various tourist spots. Beijing is really big, and if you don't have access to a car, proximity to the subway is critical!
    • Moderate pricing
      • I know that space is at a premium in Beijing, but I still hope to find options within budget that offer good quality and reasonable prices, or my wallet will suffer a huge loss!
    • A pleasant environment
      • Clean and safe are musts, and if the accommodations are comfortable, then that's perfect!

Recommendations needed! Recommendations needed! Recommendations needed! Important things need to be repeated three times!

⚠️ Friendly reminder for those planning to travel to Beijing:

    • Hotel prices may shock you!
      • Especially in the city center during peak tourist season.
      • What to do?
        • Try to book early; sometimes there are early bird special prices available.
        • Consider choosing hotels slightly away from the central area, but ensure they are near a metro station, as this can offer better value for the money spent.
    • "Convenient transportation" isn't just a phrase idly tossed around in Beijing!
      • Beijing is enormous with attractions scattered all over. If your accommodation area lacks convenient public transportation, you'll spend a great deal of time commuting every day.
      • What to do?
        • Prioritize hotels near the metro station, which can help you save a lot of time and taxi fares. Check the distance to the tourist sites you plan on visiting and whether the metro is easily accessible.

You could just sleep on the street where people line up for the flag-raising ceremony, from 9 PM to 3 AM. You could even sell your spot like a scalper and make some money for the night.

Oh wow, that actually makes sense! When we went to see the flag-raising, there were tons of people sleeping there.

If you don't mind the distance, our farmhouse guesthouse is affordable, and it's near Gubei Water Town.

Where do you think the meat at those BBQ stalls comes from, anyway?

So, it turns out the rumors about you guys eating people from Fujian aren't just rumors after all!

The comment section is buzzing! A hundred ways to sleep on the street from our enthusiastic and adorable netizens (I'm cracking up reading all these tips... Hahahahahaha). Honestly, if you're not too fussy about accommodation, you might find some ideas here. (P.S. The 'sleeping on the street' bit was mostly a joke, a bit exaggerated. I was actually hoping for some decent hotel recommendations. I've booked one that looks alright for now, just waiting to check in and see how it really is.)

When are you arriving? We've booked a hotel just north of Wangfujing; it's over 620 RMB a night.

Don't let anyone fool you into thinking other areas are a better deal! I'm staying on Wangfujing Street right now, and I've realized just how convenient it is. The Line 8 subway entrance is right across from the hotel. You can stroll along Wangfujing Street next door until midnight. Downstairs, you've got Menkuang Luzhu (braised pig intestines), Beijing Baodu (quick-boiled tripe), and shrimp wontons. It's a 10-minute walk to the Forbidden City, you can bike around it to Jingshan Park, and Siji Minfu Roast Duck is just a stone's throw away.

Just buy a ticket to Tianjin, sleep there, and come back when you wake up.

Hotels in Tianjin are expensive too.

I recommend this hotel. It's not too far from the subway station and it's near the Temple of Heaven.

There's a place called Qingyunge Hotel on Qianmen Street. It's affordable, has a good environment, and a twin room is just over 100 RMB.
