Beijing Travel: If I Can Save Just ONE of You from the Current Madness...
-
Let me give you a piece of advice: I genuinely wouldn't recommend visiting Beijing during the months of July and August.
Why? Here are the reasons:
-
Summer Vacation Crowds Warning:
- These two months coincide with Chinese students’ summer vacation. You can think of it as a set period when people from all over China go on trips together, so everywhere is just packed with people.
- Getting anywhere will require long queuing, so be prepared for that! If you want to sightsee properly, sorry, but it's pretty hard – all you see are people’s heads.
-
Local Residents Taking Off:
- To be honest, many local Beijingers use this time to get out of town for a trip themselves.
- Mainly to avoid becoming part of the large crowds of tourists and to escape Beijing's hot, muggy weather – definitely not enjoyable.
-
Travel Experience Might Take a Hit:
- With more people and heat, no matter where you go, your mood and travel experience can easily deteriorate.
So,
- if you don't want to stare at the back of people's heads or suffer through the heat, please genuinely consider planning to visit during other times. You’ll have a much better time then.

I wonder if it'll be less crowded if I go during the National Day holiday?
-
So close, yet so beautiful—a weekend trip to Hebei? Even Beijing's tourism bureau is promoting it for them!
-
Will it be less crowded during the last week of summer vacation?
-
No, I doubt it. Some people will rush to go on the very last day. When 'some people' becomes many, it just gets more crowded. Actually, the time just before and after the National Day holiday is the most pleasant season in Beijing.
-
Beijing is rarely uncrowded.
