Guangzhou: Honestly, WTF Is There To Do? 1

Hello! I've just spent a few days in Guangzhou and would like to share some of my impressions with y'all!

To be honest, before coming to Guangzhou, the place I was most looking forward to was the world-famous Chimelong Happy World – a huge theme park that should offer a great time if you enjoy thrilling rides and attractions.

For me personally, I don't find many places particularly fascinating in Guangzhou, but the delicious food really stood out!

This city gives off a very modern, lively vibe and some of the architecture is indeed eye-catching.

    🍽️ Food Frenzy Time!

The variety of mouth-watering delicacies in Guangzhou amazed me – from morning until night, there are all sorts of amazing dishes to satisfy your taste buds!

    Please give these a try:

    • Rice Rolls (Chángfěn): A thin rice noodle sheet made from rice paste and filled with meat, shrimp or an egg, covered in soy sauce. It’s soft and delicate. Essential for breakfast!
    • Roasted Goose (Shāo’é): Roasted goose with crispy skin and tender meat. It’s so fragrant!
    • Crispy Char Siu (Chāshāo): Honey-baked pork roast with a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavor. It's excellent paired with rice.
    • Sweet Soups (Tángshuǐ): Not just sugar and water, it's actually a general term for all kinds of sweet soups, ranging from adzuki bean soup to mung bean soup to sesame paste. The varieties are endless!

You can never get enough of any one dish!

Special Note: There are lots of sidewalk snack stalls in the evening, bustling with all sorts of delectable food, truly an experience that'll keep you glued to where you are. This part is my favorite!

(Building) The Architecture is a Site to See Too!

I have been left with quite an impression by the buildings of Guangzhou.

There are both modern high rises and traditional 'painted buildings' (qílóu) – buildings with open walkways on the ground floor which lead up to residential stories. They are typical of Southern architecture, ideal for shopping during sunshine or rain showers.

These structures are imbued with genuine Lingnan style – a unique cultural style encompassing both the culture and architecture of South China.

A night walk along the Pearl River with views of the lights illuminating the riverbanks truly brings out Guangzhou’s distinctive charm!

If I return to the Guangdong province in the future, I plan to check out the Chaoshan region (a region stretching into the border between Guangdong and Fujian), as they say the cuisine there is equally top-notch! ✌︎˶╹ HeaderComponent

Honestly, it's not much fun. It's not as bustling as Shanghai, and there's practically no natural scenery.

Guangzhou isn't really a commercialized tourist destination.

Forget about having fun in Guangzhou; you should count yourself lucky if you don't get run over by an electric scooter.

Then you obviously haven't been to Shenzhen.

Guangzhou is mainly about food; there's really not much else to do for fun (speaking as a local).

Is the morning tea (dim sum) good there?

Guangdong is a place for working, not for sightseeing.
