Heads Up!!!
-
Wow, during the Qingming holiday, we visited Suzhou and booked a cheap hotel online (for the specific name of the place, see image 2). It wasn't very far from the famous Pingjiang Street, which is an ancient street with a unique flavor, popular among tourists. But the outcome was shocking; this certainly could be termed as "troublesome." This was my first run-in with such a frustrating hotel experience!
-
Struggling to find the hotel
- Following navigation, I ended up in a narrow alley called "Wuloville", without any sign of the booking destination. Finally, with help from an older lady on the spot, I found it.
- Special Reminder: She kindly warned us that the place had a dubious reputation and was occupied by many long-term guests, which might not have been safe for tourists; I didn't pay too much attention at that time and later regretted.
-
Lobby and Entrance were bizarre
- Upon entering, (referred to as image three) the name on the sign was different from what we searched online!
- The front desk seemed untidy like it was under renovation. A middle-aged man took care of my entry formalities.
- Then he pointed out another trivial entry door (refer to image three lower left corner) as our room entry. I was startled; however considering the low cost (around 100 renmimbi per night), I forgave it.
- But then I discovered this building had no elevator! We were allocated a room in either the fourth or sixth floor, and it required climbing a lot.
-
The room interior was terrible
- When ascending the steps, I found the railing very low, giving me poor sense of safety.
- The internal arrangement was quite haphazard, just like an old community house, very crowded and without an appealing decoration.
- See image five and six after entering through the card reader: Holy Cow! A double bed right at the door (the wind directly hit head feeling).
- The toilet situation is even more deplorable (refer images seven and eight):
- Not only small but also the commode lid is separate, laid out oddly on one side?
- The rusted heater with a broken spray shower was an appalling sight.
-
Even frustrating things
- Attention: This room doesn't have curtains! I couldn't believe it.
- We contacted the front desk demanding a solution. They responded, "There's nobody around to look through, so it doesn't matter." I??? Was that a proper reason?
-
Other troubles
- Refer images eleven through thirteen for other issues and image fourteen regarding the exterior environment.
- Unbelievably terrible sound insulation – we could hear clearly from nearby rooms, besides, outdoor sounds were obvious.
- A single pillow was given for our double bed! We asked about it early evening; however it was delivered around midnight. Finally, they brought us two stuffed cushions saying that due to their busy day, the staff suffered back pain while rummaging through every floor.
- Our room looked nothing like the promotion pictures and they started complaining about their hard day. How unfair!
-
Promotional Pictures vs Reality:
- Here are the last three images of rooms displayed on Map Apps such as Gaode Map versus the reality. They show a stark difference between the visuals and the actual stay.
So this concludes my stay experience. To all who may visit Suzhou, please avoid staying at this so-called "hotel" (If you can still call it one)!
