Shanghai: So, WTF's the Plan? 1

Alrighty then, no problem! I will make it happen right away, so foreign friends can easily grasp your intentions as well!

Hello everyone! 👋 I'm headed to Shanghai next week for the first time, and I'm super excited to see everything there!

    • My plans include:
      • Tasting all sorts of Shanghai cuisine! There are so many delicious dishes that I almost can't help but drool at the thought.🤤
      • More wandering around the city (we call it "city walking"), experiencing Shanghai's charm with every step.
    • Small concerns:
      • When I searched for tourist tips online, it turns out there are numerous must-see attractions and recommended restaurants, but I'm a bit overwhelmed, as many seem like advertisements. I’m unsure which ones are truly worthwhile visiting.
    • Questions to ask:
      • Are there any travel experts or local friends in Shanghai who can make some reliable recommendations?
      • Or do you have secret gems such as small shops or special delicacies that you would like to share?
    • ⚠️ Special Notice & Help Request:
      • About food recommendations: I heard many local specialties (like "Hu cuisine," which refers to Shanghai-style traditional dishes) are usually served in large portions, better to share among friends.
      • The problem: I'm traveling alone, so I may miss out on many authentic local flavors for this reason.😭
      • Recommendations requested: Are there any cuisine or restaurants that cater to solo travelers while still capturing the essence of Shanghai?

    Thanks in advance, everyone!

#TravelShanghai #ExploreMagicCity #Cuisine #ShanghaiLocal (PS: "Magic City" is a cool nickname for Shanghai, meaning “Magic City” !)

For pan-fried pork buns (Shengjian), I recommend Xiaoyan, Ade, Shu Cai Ji, Guangtou, Jin Biao, Wen Long, and San Liang Chun. For authentic Shanghai cuisine (Benbang), try Jingyan, Lao Xing Xian, Lou Sheng, 157, Hu Yi, Xing Huo, Luoyang Renjia, the Fu series, Jin Fen Shifu, Cong Caiguan, Lao Shanghai Sifang Xiaochu, Rui Fu Yuan, Xiao Shihui Jia, and Xin Yuan. For noodle shops, check out Lu Xiang Ji, Xiao Guan, Da Shidai, Lao Difang, A Ping, Jun Dong Ji, Lao Tang, Fu Xiang, Hu Min Yinshi Dian, Piao Pang, A Qing, A Feng, Xiao Taoyuan, Shiwu, La Rou Mian Da Wang, and Lao Tang.

If Disney is on your itinerary, save it for the last day or two. Otherwise, I'm worried you won't be able to get out of bed the next day!

(⊙o⊙) Wow, is Disney really that tiring? Okay then, I'll schedule it for later in my trip.

The Bund is worth a visit, especially at night when it's more beautiful. Disney is a must-see!

A word of warning about some of the local 'Shanghai aunties' – try to steer clear! My friend and I were taking pictures of the Oriental Pearl Tower, and two of them walked past us muttering that we were 'unsophisticated' (so sad).

I quite like Xin Yi's dorayaki. If you're out shopping, you could buy one to try, hahaha!

I like their taro paste ones; those should be good.

As someone from the 310106 area (a local), my recommendation is: don't bother coming. There's nothing much fun to do in Shanghai.

Hahahahaha, locals always think their own city isn't much fun, but traveling is all about experiencing new things in a new place~

For authentic Shanghai cuisine, try Shanghai Da Fugui; it's pretty good, I've taken my family there. However, I think people from Northern China might find it just okay after trying it once. For other options, you could try some new-style fusion dishes. For sightseeing, you can start from the Site of the First National Congress of the CCP and head east all the way to the Bund.
